The foundation’s fundamental ideals are Ecology and Sustainability, Democracy and Human Rights, Self-Determination, and Justice, and Scholarship recipients are expected to demonstrate an active interest in all four.
One thousand undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students will receive scholarships from the Heinrich Boll Foundation. Those interested in attending one of Germany’s top educational institutions should do so. Any student from any country may apply for a German Scholarship. This award can be used toward the pursuit of a bachelor’s or master’s degree in virtually any field of study. All university coursework in Germany will take place at institutions officially recognized by the German state.
In Germany, the Heinrich Böll Foundation operates independently from the government. In 1997, it was formed when three earlier organizations merged and subsequently joined Alliance 90/The Greens. Heinrich Böll is a major literary figure in the Federal Republic of Germany. The German author Heinrich Böll (1917–1985) served as the inspiration for the organization’s name. The Heinrich Böll Foundation was established on the tenets of three core values: ecological and sustainable development; democratic and human rights; and individual liberty and social justice. - For Foreigners Studying in Germany and Abroad Learning in Germany: Only those with a bachelor’s degree will be considered.
